Welcome to Girls Softball

East Meadow Girls Softball is for players from 5 to 18 years of age. The cutoff date for age level is December 31st.  Player's age as of December 31st determines in which division they are to play. For the 2015 Spring Intramural Season for example, a player born on December 17, 2005 would be 9 and play in our Minors division, whereas a player born on January 1, 2006 would be 8 and play in the Farms division. One of the key concepts we stress in Girls Softball is “Sportsmanship”, we try and instill in our players, managers, and coaches that sportsmanship is more important than winning. Please see the 2015 Little League Age Chart - Softball Division for clarification on where your child will be classified as “League Age”.

Girls Softball consists of East Meadow intramural seasons, described below, and travel programs starting at 8u (ages 7 & 8 years old) and going through 18u (ages 15-18).

Players ages 3 and 4 years old are welcome to participate in our kickball program run by our Mini League.

Season:

The season typically starts in late March and runs through June.

2015 Schedule

Games:

Games played during the week may start between 5PM and 6PM.

Games played on weekends will have scheduled start times ranging from 8:00AM to 6PM.

Intramural Rules:

Click Here for the 2015 Intramural Rules

Playing Equipment:

Parents must provide glove, bat, rubber cleats, and a batting helmet with a face mask and chin strap (each team bag will contain a batting helmet for players without their own). We also recommend that parents consider purchasing heart guards and face masks for all players in all age groups above Ponytails (especially Minors and above).

Catchers gear will be supplied by EMBSA.

Coaching:

Team coaching staffs consist of a volunteer manager, two to three volunteer coaches, and a volunteer team parent.

Anyone expressing interest in managing or coaching should contact the Player Agents. You must complete the volunteer form.

Supplemental Rules:

2015 Supplemental Rules

Ponytails Division:

Our Ponytail division is for players 5 and 6 years old. Players are introduced to the game of softball utilizing 11” Softie or Training balls and bat off of a tee. Fundamentals are stressed at this age level, teaching them to “throw like a girl”, catch as well as hitting. At some point during the season, coaches usually transition the players from using the tee to “coach pitching”. All players bat every inning, outs are not recorded and score is not kept.

Building on the fundamentals taught in the Ponytail division, play is advanced by introducing a pitching machine utilizing 11” Dimple balls, the machine is electric powered and is approximately 35 feet from home plate and the balls are pitched at approximately 35 mph. Each batter gets five pitches in an attempt to either reach a base or record an out. Each player does not bat every inning as inning end with either three outs or five runs scored. Score is kept for these games but standings are not recorded, and therefor playoffs are not held. Players in this division are eligible to try out for the 8u Travel Team.

Innings consist of either three outs or four runs scored, with the exception of the sixth inning. Score is kept for these games and standings are recorded, playoffs are held in this division. Players in this division are eligible to try out for the 10u Williamsport Travel Team.
